As a master in political sciences, Koen started working for Brussels and Flemish MP Sven Gatz at the Brussels Parliament in 2000. There, he dived into on-line media communication and IT policy, leading up to the regional elections of 2004. He then left the parliament to become Cabinet Advisor New Technologies for/to Minister Guy Vanhengel. The Region of Brussels Capital has centralised all Ministry IT budgets in 2005, and has its own IT administration, the Brussels Regional Informatics Centre (BRIC – www.bric.irisnet.be ). Moreover, the Region of Brussels Capital is owner of the PPS-built fibre network called IrisNet, connecting all public institutions, including schools. In the Governments’s efforts to support the IT services of its administration and combat/fight the digital divide, he assisted in developing a roadmap to cover the entire Region of Brussels Capital in a Wireless network, within a frameset of sustainable development.
