Wi-Manx deploys UK’s first commercial WIMAX Service

Wi-Manx Ltd & FWA Solutions announces the UK’s first commercial service based on licensed WIMAX technology. The entirely new infrastructure allows the local operator, based on the Isle of Man, to offer best of breed internet access to their local customers.

The infrastructure is capable of supporting private connections between offices, home users and links to off-island destinations. Wi-Manx's carrier grade network supports high-speed services including IP, Voice and Ethernet technologies. The system's non-line-of-sight capability means it has a large coverage area over the town of Douglas. The service operates on a licensed band resulting in a higher quality of service.

FWA Solutions, a Redline Communications certified partner, installed and commissioned a RedMAX system earlier this year which is now delivering commercial services on the Isle of Man. Although many operators have undergone trials of pre-WIMAX systems, this is the UK’s first licensed, fully IEEE802.16d compliant, commercial network deployment of its type.
