Sara Murray
| Speaking Sessions: Exploiting GPS technology - revolutionising personal safety |
Company: Buddi
Job title: Founder
Sara Murray graduated from Oxford University with an M.A. Hons in Physiology, Psychology & Philosophy. Murray started her career in management consultancy with ZS Associates and later moved to Hambros Bank to work in Asset Finance.
In 1992 she started her first business, Ninah Consulting - a marketing consultancy advising multi-national corporates on their marketing effectiveness. It has been adopted by some of the world’s largest consumer brands, beginning with SmithKline Beecham and later including HBOS, Diageo, the AA, CGNU, Comet and Coca-Cola Schweppes.
In 2000, Murray founded inspop.com, an online insurance marketplace. Within 18 months she had built and sold the online revenue-generating company with over 250,000 customers to the Admiral Group, who renamed it confused.com.
Sara Murray developed buddi after temporarily losing her daughter Rowena while shopping in a local supermarket 8 years ago. Rowena was found safe but the trauma of being taken into the car park by the supermarket security guard to check the boots of cars as they left the car park made Murray search for a solution. This started her to think about a better way to give both her and her daughter peace of mind.
After two years of research and development in GPS technology Sara’s idea of buddi – an innovation in personal safety - became a reality.
Sara is an avid skier, sailor and runner, and loves spending time with her daughter. She is also a non-executive Director of Schering Health Care, a pharmaceutical market leader in the area of women’s health.
