RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is evolving as a major technology enabler for tracking goods and assets around the world. It can help hospitals locate expensive equipment more quickly to improve patient care, pharmaceutical companies to reduce counterfeiting and logistics providers to improve the management of moveable assets. It also promises to enable new efficiencies in the supply chain by tracking goods from the point of manufacture through to the retail POS (point of sale).
In addition to the utilization of RFID, there is a need for the deployment of wireless LAN technology in the EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) to deliver real-time information that gives retailers an edge in managing inventory, adjusting prices, increasing efficiency and boosting the bottom line. Keeping the information flowing across dispersed locations requires centralized control of wireless access points, switches, handhelds, tablet PCs and more.
